Apple Will Receive 70 Million OLED Panels From Samsung For iPhone 8

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 8 later this year. Rumors have predicted that the company will go with OLED panels for the first time with this flagship. Adding to these rumors is the latest report which suggests that Apple has ordered 70 million OLED panels from Samsung, giving us a big hint about Apple’s upcoming flagship. Apple is believed to be using a 5.2-inch panel with the iPhone 8.

Samsung apparently has a contingency in place should Apple demand more OLED panels. The report further mentions that the iPhone 7s and the 7s Plus will continue to use 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch LCD panels, much like their predecessors. Given that 2017 marks the 10th year since the launch of the first iPhone, Apple is expected to keep some features exclusive to the iPhone 8.

There has also been talk of Apple ditching the home button, with the fingerprint scanner embedded within the display. This will greatly help cut down on bezel space. It is said that the new iPhone will cost $1000 (Rs 64,800) or higher for the base model, so this could well be the first iPhone to breach the 1 lakh barrier in the country. Other rumored features include wireless charging, facial recognition using 3D sensor and improved battery life.

Apple is clearly leaving no stone unturned to make the iPhone 8 a grand success. The company apparently expects to sell 5 million units of the device before the end of the year
